Selena
She broke through the barriers of the world of music by performing, singing and designer. She was Mexican-American, but also traditional. She introduced Tejano to mainstream culture. Her untimely death splintered her rise in popularity, and like many times when a bright deeply genial star dies far too young left many to mourn her unrealized potential. The fans have worked hard through the years to ensure that her legacy is kept alive. The tragic shooting death of Tejano singer Selena spawned a reaction in the Latino community that can be compared to the reactions in the wake of the deaths of Elvis Presley and John Lennon. The music of Selena an artist who was hugely successful across Latino Communities across North America touched people young as well as old. Selena might have been described by some as an Latina Madonna, however she is still a great role model. Selena's family values off stage and involvement with AIDS awareness programs make her a good example.
